September 9 Updates
Homecoming Car Parade, Friday, September 18, 5:05pm,
Lindbergh to Renton Stadium
Prior to the Homecoming Game, there will be a parade of escorted cars from Lindbergh to Renton Stadium. The following information is from the "2009 Car Parade Information and Guidelines" handout, which is available in the Attendance Office, along with all permission forms.
The Homecoming Car Decorating Contest will be held on Friday, Sept. 18th. Those who wish to participate should come to LHS upper parking lot at 3:00pm. You may NOT begin decorating before 3:00. You must provide your own decorations such as streamers, banners, window chalk, etc. Be creative and show your spirit! No school supplies (ASB) are to be used for decoration of vehicles. Participants are responsible for cleaning up any mess made in the parking lot. All decorated vehicles must be undecorated once we arrive at Renton Stadium. Judging of vehicles will begin at 4:45 - 5:00pm. We will depart from LHS upper parking lot to Renton Stadium at 5:05!
Everyone participating must have the Driver and Passenger forms filled out and turned in no later than Thursday, Sept. 17, by 2:00pm.
Homecoming Football Game, Friday, Sept. 18, 6:00pm, Renton Stadium.
Please come to the game! We want to pack the stands as much as possible! Our boys and girls need our support! So bring some friends and come on out! Half-time festivities will include introduction of the Homecoming Court, and the Dance Team performance.
Homecoming Dance, Saturday, Sept. 19, 8:30pm - 11:30pm, Lindbergh High School.
The dance will take place in the Commons and cafeteria. The theme is "A Night on the Town". Students may bring other students from other schools as long as they have the appropriate forms signed off (forms available in the attendance office). Tickets will be sold starting Monday, the week of the dance. The attire is casual
Adult chaperones are needed for the BIGGEST school dance of the year! If you can help, please respond no later than Wednesday, Sept. 16, to Christina Allen, at christina.allen@rentonschools.us.
Note: Students will not be able to purchase Homecoming dance tickets if they have any open discipline or fines. Please have them take care of clearing these up ASAP!
PTSA News.
We are in immediate need for a Treasurer!!! If you have any accounting experience, and/or past PTA treasurer experience, please contact Linda Kawamura at tkawamu@msn.com.
The PTSA budget is not as intense as an elementary school PTA, or even a middle school PTSA budget. There is little to no fundraising done, but as a non-profit organization, we still need to keep our records up-to-date. Please consider helping us out!!!! Thank you!

The next home volleyball game is listed below. We are looking for help between 2:30 - 4:00, and possibly 5:45 - 7:00. If you can help for even just one hour, we would appreciate it!

To find these pages without the above links, you do the following:
1) Go to the Renton School District home page at www.rentonschools.us
2) In the menus near the top, just under the photo bar, click on “District Departments”
3) Scroll down to Extracurricular and click on “Activities and Athletics”
4) Once on the Activities and Athletics main page, choose the appropriate menu from the left side—Sport Schedules or Athletic Forms

Lindbergh Sports Clearance Information.
Sports clearance papers are available in the LHS attendance office. For students who have already had their physicals done, there are additional papers that need to be signed by parents (e.g., Concussion Information sheet, and two other documents). ROTARY OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to Theresa N. for being chosen as Renton Rotary Youth of the Month for September! Way to go, Theresa!
RENTON ROTARY YOUTH OF THE MONTH
Applications are now available for Renton Rotary Youth of the Month.Each month, two seniors from each high school are chosen to attend an interview with the Rotarians. One student from each school is then chosen as the Youth of the Month representing their school. They are honored at a luncheon hosted by the Renton Rotary. Every spring, the Renton Rotarians offer four generous scholarships to graduating seniors. Applications are available in the Career Center and online at www.rentonrotary.org. They must be turned into the Career Center no later than October 2. See Mrs. Pellegrini if you have any questions.
DO THE PUYALLUP COLLEGE FAIR!
The Puyallup Fair is more than livestock, carnival rides and food. This year, it can be a place to look into higher education whether you are a recent high school graduate or someone considering a career change. The College Fair will feature more than 30 universities, colleges and technical schools. Their representatives will be on hand to discuss curriculum, tuition, Running Start, financial aid, activities and campus life. A series of 30-minute informational sessions on topics such as financial aid, essay writing and NCAA athletics are offered. The College Fair is September 11 and 12 and is located in the Pavilion.

How do we fund the schools we need and still afford our health and social programs? –

42nd in spending: The way Washington funds schools hasn't been working – mainly because the state didn't have a handle on what students really need. For instance, it only funded 5 periods when kids need 6 to get into college. High school requirements didn’t align with college and employer requirements. And while Seattle kids did well on the WASL – and many taking the SAT did great – five out of six grads didn’t have the credits to get into college. In 2007, only 17 percent of Seattle Public School graduates met university entrance requirements.
Money from the state doesn’t cover what communities expect – and often falls short on transportation and overhead costs. Legislation passed last year promises to overhaul the way we fund schools – and to pay for the education kids really need. But the big debate over HOW to increase ed funding (take it from other areas or increase tax revenue) remains.
Do we need tax reform? More revenue? What are the likely proposals? What if new funding isn't secured?
Please join legislators, education leaders, parents and teachers as we discuss just what it’ll take to pay for the schools we need – without hurting our investments in health and social programs.
We hope this will be the first in a series of conversations about changing the way we think about what’s “basic” in education.

ISSUES PAPER AND SURVEY NOW ONLINE TO HELP YOU GET READY FOR LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY
Help us build our voice for children by coming to Legislative Assembly, which will be held October 2nd and 3rd at the SeaTac Marriott. You can come either as a voting delegate to represent your unit or council, or as a non-voting delegate. Classes and interactive trainings are being planned to appeal to both new and seasoned advocates. Registration is now available online, and we have recently added more information including the following
· The tentative Agenda;
· “How the Legislative Assembly Works”—A guide to the various activities of the Assembly;
· The 2009 Issue Guide, which explains both our current legislative platform and proposals for change.
· The 2009 Issue Survey, which voting delegates can use to get feedback from members about proposals that will be considered at the Assembly;
